My time of stated supply is quickly coming to an end and it is time to start listing for a call. Let me know about people that want to worship God, work in the world, and engage propaganda.
I'm about ready to realize your conclusion, leave the formal structure in the US that for most of the past 50 years has prevented engaging the world, and work on the next step of creating the call.
there are always blossoming communities in need of leadership... not sure you can expect elca minimum salary standards, but people with an imagination and a lack of infatuation with the american dream could absolutely find a place...
I'm one who didn't enter the ministry right out of school. I have an undergraduate engineering degree with more graduate work along with years of experience in very different fields that have some commonality in that they all are the cutting edge of technology. Almost all of my work in the congregation has been in those at the edge of survival: one voted to close, the other is in the process of selling its property so it might have a chance, and I'm working with two other ones that don't have long to live. The only way that I can afford to live is to have another job.
My problem is one of contacts. Even though I'm active in the synod and the state, it is practically impossible to find any "emerging" churches in the Lutheran tradition. I'm guessing that I've been looking in the wrong direction. Instead of being found in places of power, these people will be at the edges of society.
