Samuel We are working on the same thing. We are in the St.Paul, so part of our group falls into the hip/artsey/ex-yuppie subculture; but we are also in one of the only neighborhoods that is blue color. One of the things we did to engage the communit…

I don't think so, but the plans are kind of fuzzy still, as far as I can tell. Here's a link to the group site on ELN. In the message board there it does say that it will be at Good Samaritan UMC. It also says it runs from noon to noon, Oct 8-9, yet somehow I'm skeptical it will include an actual sleepover session. ;)

Cool!

Say - are you planning on coming to the Luthermergent gathering in October? I'm thinking that's going to be a great chance to kick exactly this kind of stuff around with like minded folks.

I hear about Humble Walk back at the SPAS Assembly and was able to visit several weeks ago. I wonder if we met? I was there with my 7 year old daughter Becca. Sound familiar?

Re. house church, there are a few Lutherans poking around in that direction like myself, but not many so far as I know and I've been keeping an eye out for 2-3 years now. It's too bad... IMHO we should be out in front on this movement for several reasons. After all, Luther himself suggested HC as the natural & preferred form for faith communities. Had you heard that? I didn't hear about it when in seminary but found out incidentally through a small group conference. I wrote about it and posted the reference here. Apologies for the shameless self-promotion there. ;)

Hi Brieanna - welcome to ELN. I see you're also in St. Paul... at Luther perhaps?

Just to take a shot in the dark... are you interested at all in house/simple church expressions?

Profile Information

About Me:
Married 20 something, with a passion for life, love, Jesus, and justice.

Most of my days are spent working a 9-5, but when I am not busy with that I enjoy:

Biking down St. Paul's side streets on a zero performance Schwinn traveler.
Drinking excessive amounts of cold press coffee
Reading an endless array of books ranging from Darwin to Kierkegaard, Rand to Sederis.
Listening to MPR/NPR, and chuckling at how my father always told me that they were the greatest example of the liberal bend in the media.
Engaging in endless discussions about taboo topics with anyone willing to participate intelligently.
Finding a good use for anything made before 1965 (Clothes, furniture, film, my mother, etc.
Watching my husband in the garage and wondering how he does that? Him trying to explain it to me, and me responding with the fall of the Roman empire.
BBQ....mmmmm BBQ

Who am I? (Many ways to answer this -- be as creative as you want, or not.)
Let me just say that I am thinking way too hard about this question; which is stereotypical "brie". I am the person that you tell something to, and 3 days later I am still thinking about it's implications.

I am a lover of life. I believe that we were put on this earth to love God, love life, and love others. I believe in supporting communities that encourage this.

I feel like I am writing for NPR's "This I Believe"
How did I get into "emerging ministry"?
Long story....seriously I tried to type it out in Word, I got a quarter of the way done and it was already a page.

I've always been interested in alternative ministries; especially after attending an unnamed evangelical bible college. I found that so much of the Love, support, and community that is found in scripture did not stack up against the current church. At the same time I found myself going back to the Lutheran theology and services I was raised with.

My neighbor/pastor invited me to worship with her brand new community after having coffee one Saturday morning. It stuck.

As a church, I think we realized in short order that we were becoming emerging, even though it was not our intention.
Say a little bit about the community you share life with...
Humble Walk is a new community that meets in a quite, and diverse neighborhood in St. Paul, MN. We have been worshiping together for slightly under a year.

The focus of our ministry is building a community with one another inside of the church and providing opportunities for those who are outside of it. We see importance in sharing a meal, and being involved in our community, as well as integration of all the beautiful children who are in attendance.

We are just at that point where we must sit down and discuss the direction which our community wants to head. The meeting is planned, and we are all excited about it.
