Sorry about the long delay. Check out the open-source software I reference in the original post: Joomla! and CiviCRM. They are both web-based and accessed using a browser. Set-up is by no means a beginner level task but a person with intermediate c…

I have been doing outreach for a long time. In the last several years I have centered on door-to-door in the neighborhood around my home church, Bethany Lutheran in Alexandria Va. I'd be interested in finding out a lot more about your database setup…

I'm jealous. Here in Detroit. All you Lutherans having fun. So what happened? Someone care to write a summary post?

Good post, tough to respond in one cohesive unit so I will try and break this up. 1)You are spot-on regarding what I call the lone-wolf mentality; one person should not be out canvassing. Likewise, there should not be one person trying to do anythi…

I thought I would share a few of my thoughts concerning door-to-door evangelism. There seems to me to be two important questions to ask as one decides on a method for church planting. The first deals with the effectiveness in establishing the minist…

I strive for a natural conversation where I can address my goals for the visit. For initial visits my goals are 1) Establish the relationship 2) Begin learning about the individual 3) Develop a picture of the larger community. How the questions are…

can you give examples of questions you ask. In the past I have door knocked for community events at the church ,ie, youth art show, flu shots, etc., but not cold call conversations.

Thanks for your answers. I know that when I was last looking for a call, some synods had asked me to consider church planting, but I told them I didn't want to knock on doors. My reasons were a lot of the usual ones - people not wanting another reli…

Excellent phrase, your words...long-term engagement...The time and finances needed to make this work are much greater than most people assume. Many people want a fad-diet answer but The Way involves old-school hard work, and improved diet and exerci…

If you look back at my original message I wrote... "Door knock, follow up, phone calls, mailings, one on one visits. Intense data tracking using database and relationship management software" Door knocking alone won't get it done. So again I say,…

So...effectiveness? I have found the standard wisdom of the ten percent rule is correct. For every X number of contacts 25-30% will result in a contact then use 10%... 10% of the contacts will be good leads, and 10% of the good leads will become act…

Now, your second question (in parenthesis) is the first question to address before even starting with the knocking and I'll add that the measurement is dependent on your purpose for door knocking. In my own work, the underlying purpose is to initia…

First, answer to your third question: The reaction is 95% positive, 4.8% neutral/skeptical, .2% outright jerks. I'm sure it helps that I am not passing out convert-to-Christ literature, not pushing hard for Jesus. I am conversing in a natural manne…

How effective have you found knocking on doors to be (and I guess I can qualify that with "how do you measure effectiveness")? What have been the reactions you usually get? I'm curious because I hear arguments both pro and con door knocking.

How did I get into "emerging ministry"?
6+ years of seminary deprogramming by way of Starbucks, Youth Minister, Church Secretary, Unemployment, IWJ, SEIU Local 3, More Unemployment as Mr. Mom w/Jonah, and 10 month, 3000+ door Obamathon-->also mix in some Linux, Joomla, and other Opensource goodies.

Much reading, anguish, rending of garments, teeth gnashed nights, love
Say a little bit about the community you share life with...
Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Eastpointe, MI. They moved from the D in early 80's. Worship is 12-15 people much older than myself. Doors locked all week. No Thing Happening.
BUT
Building is small, paid off, and these people are ready for action.
What are the most pressing questions (both theological and practical) you and your community have?
Can't answer that in this space. Must type long time. Another day.
