I served at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for 5 years before coming back down to Champaign. Salem was very generous in providing me with scholarships each year to go towards my classes for the AIM program.
Who am I? (Many ways to answer this -- be as creative as you want, or not.)
I am just dipping my big toe into the waters as I try to discover and discern where God is leading me in ministry today and in the future. It is exciting and daunting at the same time. There is much to gain and yet I am also fearful of what I might have to give up. Does anyone else know what I am talking about.
Say a little bit about the community you share life with...
I am pastor at an urban congregation that used to be a thriving Swedish neighborhood. That has all changed. Most people don't live in the neighborhood anymore. It is an exciting time to be here though. The people are wonderful and many are open to exploring with me where God is leading us.
What are the most pressing questions (both theological and practical) you and your community have?
How do we respect with integrity the rich depth of our tradition while at the same time embracing the excitement of moving forward? How can we find a balance? Is balance possible? Personally, what am I afraid to give up or loose? Also, what is important to keep?
