Sorry that it took me too long to respond and missed the opportunity to see you here in Chicago. I am now serving as The Lutheran World Federation Regional Officer serving US and Canada. what did you do here last May. How is your current ministry?

Don't know if or how actively you might be moderating this network, but it looks like we were hit with a spam attack about an hour ago from the Eulalia Rutledge account. You are probably already aware, but I figured I'd speak up anyhow. Take care.

Curious. When did courses on Personal Witness, Cross Cultural Outreach, Rural Suburban Urban outreach, Assimilation and discipleship ministries, Christian response to religions of the world all translate into church marketing? Hummm

Thomas....i was wandering around the net and looking at some stuff relating to mission in a lutheran context (www.lutheranmission.blogspot.com) and stumbled across Nathan Frambach's page which directed me here.

Really trippy story...
I am in the process of recording a concept album called "broken heart". The album wrestles with themes about the over consumered, over purchased over institutionalized culture in america. The point being that our relationships, communities and culture no longer work because we have many of desires misplaced and as result we as a collective whole have a broken heart.

Anyways, I just read through the Broken Hearted Manifesto and we deeply struck by the eerie resonance they have...most of all being the name of course. I am waiting to hear back from my the boss (aka my wife) and will shoot some times your way....pretty sweet that you have your schedule on line! Delete Comment

Who am I? (Many ways to answer this -- be as creative as you want, or not.)
I break things and ask questions. God loves me anyway.
How did I get into "emerging ministry"?
I got an 'outreach' degree from a school that only has two tracks for the outreach program: (1) Overseas Mission (2) Church Marketing. I wasn't going to go overseas, so I took the "Church Marketing" track. But you take a few classes in both tracks no matter which you choose, so I had a few classes in how to live in a village and learn the culture and language and retranslate the gospel into their culture. BAM! That clicked like a bomb in my soul. But I couldn't figure out why we are unwilling to approach mission this way in the US.
So here I am, 8 years later, trying to figure out how to live in the village, learn the language, translate the gospel, and raise up indigenous leadership.
Say a little bit about the community you share life with...
We're a band of folks who are tired of Churchianity, who feel betrayed by Christians, and want to learn to love God and love others. Rather than gather around worship, we try to learn to live the BrokenHeartManifesto (.com)
What are the most pressing questions (both theological and practical) you and your community have?
- Why do Christians have to be right?
- Why do bad things happen to good people?
- Who is Jesus?
- What is the meaning of life?
- Coffee or Tea?
- Who the &@*! do you think you are?
- Does anybody love me?
